The village and boardwalk are ancient-present and present-future Egypt.
The goats and sheep who live in the alleys, the stuccoed stone walls hiding the faces of the small houses of the village are ancient Egypt in our midst.
The boardwalk tee-shirt shops (one shop called "No Hassle Shop"), raggae music, sheesha pipe (hookah) shops and the handsome young Cairo men who persistantly and yet politely invite you to come into their seaside restaurant/sheesha parlor for a cup of tea are modern and future Egypt.
We felt welcome from the first and at home very shortly thereafter. This is the kind of place you should go to if you ever decide to just run away from it all.
