Dahab - Sinai Desert
The drive across Sinai was long, about four hours, but and scenery, which may seem desolate and monotonous in these photos, was actually continually varying. The penninsula is like a table top tilted up to the east.

There is a sand desert between the Suez Canal and the foothills. The desert sand is a terrible and infamous hazard for night-time drivers, tending to pile up over the road, a fatal sand trap.

The foothills are well-guarded with military installations on both sides. These were the first of about six check-points we encountered traveling to Dahab. Yes, two Americans with American passports with valid Egyptian visas. No problem - welcome to Egypt - have a nice day.

The road sign shows destinations in Sinai. Sharm El Sheikh is the most famous and is about 100 km south of our destination, Dahab.
