Capital City - fun to explore We took two shopping excursions to the capital island of Male. This was a 45min. one way boat trip.
Male is right next door to the island that has the airport. It is a bustling place with motorscooters everywhere. This seemed a bit odd to us as it is a small city and flat and very walkable [about 15 city blocks long and 10 city blocks wide] but it seems that the people prefer the scooters. They also drive British style which is always a bit tough to navigate.
Most buildings there are 2-3 stories with the exception of the waterfront commercial structures.
The Maldivians have their own language with their own alphabet: Dhivehi. See the photo (below) of a sign with English and Dhivehi words on it.
